Volker Parr, the editor of the Forschungsgemeinschaft Großbritannien (FgGB) magazine has cordially invited GBPS members to the following weekend. Perhaps you could respond to this notice (by pressing 'add message' if you are logged on) if you intend to go and we could then communicate with each other.
Kind regards, Howard

To all our friends from the Great Britain Philatelic Society

Philatelic Weekend for Great Britain and Commonwealth Collectors
2nd – 4th October 2009 in Münster, Westfalia

Forschungsgemeinschaft Großbritannien (FgGB) and the Swiss based Great Britain and Commonwealth Philatelic Society (GB and CWPS) have arranged a philatelic weekend which will take place from 2nd – 4th October 2009 in Münster in Westfalia. They have also invited all members of several other continental societies of GB and Commonwealth collectors from Germany and the Netherlands.
Münster is a very attractive city situated within easy reach for many of their members so approximately 100 participants are being expected. We will meet in a very nice hotel in Münster with attractive special prices for our guests (www.hotelmuennich.de).

It would be a great honour to have some of our British friends with us for this very special occasion. So everybody who would like to come and join us for this weekend is heartily invited.

One of the major highlights of the meeting will be a display given by Mike Jackson about the Maltese Cross cancellations. Mike has promised to come to Münster. He (and Prof. David Rockoff) will be awarded the Heinz-Reck-Literature-Award 2009 for their book about these first obliterating postmarks.

Please bring as much philatelic material as possible, which you would like to sell or swop with you to Münster. As everybody will do this the chances to sell surplus material or buy some new items for your collection are great.

Please don’t hesitate to bring your wife or partner with you to Münster. The city offers so much of touristic interest. We will at least offer one guided tour of the town on Saturday morning. If there are enough interested persons there will be another tour on Saturday afternoon.

Prices for hotel accomodation are very moderate. We have made arrangements with the hotel management which allow us to offer the whole weekend starting on Friday night end ending on Sunday lunchtime for just 135.50 Euros for a single room and 200.00 Euros for a double room. Included in these prices are two breakfasts (buffet) on Saturday and Sunday and lunch and dinner on Saturday.

If you inform us in due time we could pick you up at Düsseldorf or Cologne airport and take you to Münster and back to the airport on Sunday. As Münster is situated on one of the main north-south train lines through Germany it is also no problem at all to reach Münster by train from any airport.

Should you be interested to join us in Münster please contact Matrin Strack, our treasurer. He will send you detailed information about further arrangements. You can contact Martin via e-mail martin.strack@t-online.de or by post, Martin Strack, Ziegeleiweg 38, D-40591 Düsseldorf, GERMANY.

A very interesting proposition and worthy of consideration. Munster looks to be about 150miles from Rotterdam and easily accessible using North Sea Ferries from Hull and onwards by Train, if one did not wish to fly.

Münster has got an airport! There is also an airport near Paderborn. Paderborn is about 100 km from Münster. I will travel to Münster on the 2. October- but only for one day. I am a member of the Forschungsgemeinschaft. So let me know. Perhaps we can travel together.

Fridy there is not much happening though! Saturday is the main day with the auction, the presentation to Mike and plenty to discuss, swap etc. We will be driving down from Berlin on Friday and back on Sunday. We will look forward to seeing as many friends as possible and maybe find new members for the GB and CWPS (Switzerland) and/or FGGB. I am a member of both.

regards
James

I saw this post, an old one of two years ago, and two of us from the 'Northeast Mafia' went to Munster for the philatelic weekend, and had a very enjoyable time.

It's coming up again at the end of September this year, and it would be good to see more GBPS members there.
We can travel to Cologne from Newcastle on Tyne via the Eurostar for £80 return - mind you you need a Senior Citizens card. The tickets came available last week. Ian Harvey has given details in the Newsletter. See you there - yes?

thanks for the further plus Tony. The more the merrier especially as there were so few last year at the meeting in Berlin!

I am hoping to get the translation of your Machin colour trials done in time for the weekend so we can get it into the FgGB publication.

all the best
James

If I can remember (it's an age thing), I'll bring along the colour trial originals to Munster which might add a bit of interest to the article.

I sympathise with anyone translating specialised philatelic articles, although we might not think so, it is a rather peripheral activity with probably precise translation far from easy.

Kind regards
Tony Walker (not WEalker...!)
