Wildings Booklet Panes

Post by Tony »

Recently, when cataloguing Wildings Boooklet Panes, I noticed that various 'flaws', noted in the Specialised catalogue vol 3 12th edition for panes, have no corresponding listing under the individual stamps, an example being on 1/2d pane SB7, where three flaws are noted which are not mentioned in the entry for S4.

Is this an oversight by SG (shurely not), or is there a known reason for this apparent anomaly ?

Is it possible as the booklet pane is a specially printed sheet in a different arrangement from the normal Post Office sheet and that a flaw could appear separately? I will let you continue that investigation and look forward to your findings.
PS I collect constant minor flaws and if you want to criticise SG's catalogue for irregularities I am second in line!

Hi, Mike,

I would not dignify my dabbling on the fringes of philately with the appellation 'research', or even investigation - I was just curious.

I take your point about the sheets for booklet panes being produced separately from 'counter sheets', but some varieties which (afaik) appear only on stamps from booklets are catalogued, others are not, and I wondered whether anyone knew if there was a reason behind this.

Thanks for your input, anyway - as for criticising SG, if we do that, don't we have our tweezers confiscated ?

No - remember Branded with Chuck Connors - they break your twisters and throw them into the dirt at your feet - makes you want Woodstock to take over - Mike, but it could be time for massed protest as their catalogue does seem to be the generally accepted overall reference manual.
