May 1927 in a insured letter (Wertbrief)?"

According to Michael Furfie's book, British Civilian Postage Rates of the 20th Century, the maximum value for a Foreign insured letter to most countries in 1927 was £400. But that's for a letter sent FROM the UK, not TO the UK. I would have thought the answer to the question lies in the rates of the country of origin, not UK rates.

The limit of insurance would have been the lower of the maximum allowed by the sending country and the maximum allowed by the destination country, I would think. So in this case either £400 or whatever the German limit was -- according to my 1933 PO Guide the limit TO Germany was £400 also (although insured letters were only sent via Holland), so FROM Germany the equivalent in marks is probably the answer
