Twin Obliterators

Post by penny_red »

I have copies of the twin 45 and 46 obliterators normally used on late fee mail but have come across this cover which appears to have a twin upright 48 London Chief Office obliterator. Can anyone help as to whether this is known or just two cancels perfectly aligned?
The cover does have the normal small blue circular date stamp used on evening mail on the reverse.

Hi,

the postmark is indeed the twin Inland Branch obliterator. Your letter is a late fee paid item (1d in this case).

Thw twin 48 obliterator is a "rarity E" item (=scarce) and is pictured in p.272 of John Parmenter's "Barred Nummeral Cancellations of London" book.

Hope this helps.

Best, Alexios

Numbers 49 and 50 in the same series were also twin obliterators.

Brian.
