GB stamps Used Abroad - Constantinople

Post by satman59 »

Dear All

I have been rummaging lately and came a QV 2½d Jubilee issue stamp with a single rim CDS - BRITISH POST OFFICE CONSTANTINOPLE, dated MY 27 94.
However I couldn't find it listed in the SG Specialised. Would be Z149 if listed.

Can anyone shed any light please.
Thanks
Steve

Steve,

British Levant is not "my thing" but I suggest an email to the G.B.Overprints Society might get you the information you desire try Alex Papadopoulos who is the GBOS Levant specialist on alexiosp@hotmail.com
I am certain he will reply to you

Steve,
I have just seen your message - after 4 months since you posted it!
The 2 1/2 d Jubilee was almost always used in British Levant in its overprinted version reading "40 PARAS". However uses of this stamp in the unoverprinted form were also possible from Br Levant when used to pay parcel rates - and these are scarce.
Hope this helps.
Best regards, Alexios
