Redirection charge abolition date


mozzerb Can anyone supply the date that the charge for redirection of mail outside of the local delivery area was abolished? It was late 1890s, as I recall, but it's one of those things that for some reason I can never, ever remember accurately or find a reference to when I need to use it. 7 Jul 11

Redirection charges for letters were abolished at the end of May 1892 and those for book post, newspapers and postcards at the end of 1894.
