Insured letters to GB

"Does anyone know the maximum amount, which could be send to England
May 1927 in a insured letter (Wertbrief)?"

Mike Jackson According to Michael Furfie's book, British Civilian Postage Rates of the 20th Century, the maximum value for a Foreign insured letter to most countries in 1927 was £400. But that's for a letter sent FROM the UK, not TO the UK. I would have thought the answer to the question lies in the rates of the country of origin, not UK rates. 8 Nov 07

mozzerb The limit of insurance would have been the lower of the maximum allowed by the sending country and the maximum allowed by the destination country, I would think. So in this case either £400 or whatever the German limit was -- according to my 1933 PO Guide the limit TO Germany was £400 also (although insured letters were only sent via Holland), so FROM Germany the equivalent in marks is probably the answer 24 Apr 08
