Plate 117

Post by petrod »

Is there something special about Plate 117 (Alphabet I)?
I have at least one example of every plate from 1a to 131 in my collection, except for 117.
I have searched high and low for months, even Bill Barrell can’t find one.
Any ideas?

On re-examining ebay, I see what you mean. But they are all LC perforated, letters in four corners ( SG 43 /44). I am looking for Die I, Alph I, imperforate, watermark SC, (SG BS91).

enter, SG8 plate 117 stamps on e bay their are 9:die 1 alf 1 small crown watermark imperf penny red stamps, not the best, but are reasonable fillers until you find a good one.
That's how i did mine plates 1 to 177 imperfs now i am always on the look out to improve the poor ones (about 5 to go). I do have some spares will sell (not 117 though)
Now on the look out for early use of numbered cancels if anyone has any spares, plates 30.28. 26. 20.
