I am seeking help regarding a set of covers that I picked up on a whim a number of years ago but so far have not found any information on this set. They were for sale at £1 so I thought I couldn’t go wrong and I would find out what I needed to know when I got home. I have 81 of these covers each cover is dated and cancelled 17th June 1986. On the cover the series appears to be titled Medieval Life, Doomesday Book 1086, First Day from... then each individual cover will have its name in its original spelling and its modern name.

Commercially produced, but cheaply with what appears to be a stick on label on a plain envelope.

My suggestion marketed either for British people interested in a piece of British history (the Domesday Book) that they were taught and read about from a school age, or the unwary investor.

In either case it shows that putting money - I suspect the selling price would have been in the £50-£100 price range for the set - into something with a pretty stamp does not necessarily pay, witness the £1 price you paid for the set.

I expect you know the 900th anniversary of the Domesday Book was important enough for the Post Office to issue a set of four stamps for the occasion. The stamp on the cover you show was the lowest value one.

I am not a Queen Elizabeth specialist but i have found some information about this set of stamps . Your stamp is part of a set of four values all issued on 17 June 1986, the other values being the 22 Pence, 31 Pence, and 34 Pence.
They were issued as a first day cover and as a presentation pack , the Medieval cachet
on your example is not the official one used on the this day. They are illustrated in the
Great Britain Concise Stamp Catalogue 1990 as two very different designs , one showing an open book and the other medieval script. It appears that your cachet is
unofficial, so it could be considered a curiosity.
The official first day cover was priced at £4 in this edition. Hope this is of some help.

In my previous reply i stated that the Medieval cachet was not official it is the postmark that is not official , i do not know if the cachet is official or not.
