Hello there folks!

I hope you are all well and your collections are looking as wonderful as ever!

I have recently purchased this Die2 1d. Downey Head from an Auction House in Australia and I am struggling to find any information on it. I am wondering if this is a real overprint or a forgery, and possibly some information regarding this type of Overprint.

Thanks for taking the time to have a look and I look forward to any and all information, opinions or observations.

I appreciate the help! :)

Kind Regards,

Skilo54

I´ve never seen a Departmental Official overprint on a George V issue. I think it´s a faked overprint. I don´t think it´s a mark from an office, because the stamp is postally used.

It won't be a Departmental overprint because that whole system was scrapped in 1904. It looks vaguely like a specimen-type overprint, but a fake seems very likely.

Thanks for your replies, I really appreciate others opinions and observations, and the time taken to do so!

I am sorry for the delay in my response, seems like my original reply wasn't submitted properly and never made the thread.

I am still waiting to receive this Downey from my friend in Australia, so I cannot post any magnified images of it at this time. I finally have an USB Microscopes and look forward to be able to evaluate this one.

Seems like the general consensus from this and other boards is it is probably a fake, but regardless of that fact it will be an interesting addition to my collection!

I hope you are all well, and your collections are looking as fantastic as ever!

Kind Regards,

SK
