Help with identifying Please

Post by rustical »

Hello Everyone,

I am in the process of dealing with my Late Aunts Estate and have come across a number of Victorian era Parchments relating to her house, although what I am looking for does not seem to relate to postage, I would be interested if anyone could shine a light on what I am looking at. I think maybe inland revenue?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Russell

Russell, the first 2 are Cypher labels with the insignia of the Monarch (in use since William III) and intrinsically combined with revenue fees as on the third blue label covering the silver staple. I cannot tell from the design what £1 fee was being documented here but it is probably seen in the document itself. They are beautiful items.
Martien Blank has started collecting Cypher labels since selling his collection of telegraph stamps.

cheers

Thank-you James for taking the time to reply,,

The cypher stamp sits directly on the reverse of page where the blue label is, you can just see the shadow around the Cypher in one of the photos. Some have additional cyphers attached randomly it seems also.

I have attached some pictures of a full size document titled 'This Indenture' not sure this was the one I took pictures from originally, ( I have 5 of these)! They have different blue label values. The document is 28'' (W) by 22'' (L) and beautifully written and some lovely wax seals at the bottom.

Thanks Russell
