2-1/2d rosy-mauve, small anchor watermark, Stanley Gibbons specialized* list the three #s:
Plate 1 , #138-39;
Plate 2 138-140;
Plate 3 #138-39;

but I cannot locate any detail on what sets these apart

*8th edition (also have 3rd edition, but no descripive difference...)

I would be greatly appreciative if someone could shed some light on this?

Thank you
Stanley

They're the regular Part 1/Concise numbers -- 138 is for the ones on blued paper, 139 the white paper, and for some reason (probably it seemed like a good idea at the time in the 1890s or thereabouts) the LH-FL error on plate 2 is given its own number, 140.

The modern preference is to just use one number for the basic stamp and then list paper and plate varieties as a, b, c etc numbers. That's basically what they've done with the Specialised numbering -- they then have these lists saying which numbers from the regular catalogue they correspond to.
