Mystery Embossed "Stamp"

Post by GbBouv2014 »

Please see the attachment. I have had this mysterious embossed stamp for years but I cannot find it in any catalogue. It's wording is "POSTAGE ONE PENNY". i have altered the image to bring out details. The true color is pink. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Hi GbBouv,
Your item is a 1d Pink, it is classified as Postal Stationery. The envelope came together with the stamp image already printed on the front. They were mass produced around the
1840s.

Thank you very much. I do not plan to collect this genre but I would like to learn more about it, especially during this early period. Are there any publications that treat the subject in some depth?

If you look here
http://www.gbps.org.uk/publications/jou ... ionery.php
you will see quite a list of articles that have been published.

In there is a book review Collect British Postal Stationery. Huggins & Baker. That is the publication you want.
