The 1971 Postal Strike

Post by mike.mood@talktalk.net »

I have concluded recently that I may have been getting my strikes mixed up.

Did any post offices close during the 1971 strike, or did they all carry on opening under restricted circumstances to provide other services?

If the latter, then which strike would the attached image have come from, and why did offices close?

Mike,

Have a look at Maurice's display. I think that Crown Offices like the one that appears to be in your photo were closed, but some (or even all?) sub-post offices remained open. The latter is confirmed at https://www.gbps.org.uk/displays/1971-p ... heet11.php
