I recently purchased this stamp as "missing blue".
Grey black colour, mint hinged. Unlike reprints mentioned in SG specialised vol 3 this has gum and no inscription on back. Watermarked.

What is it?

I have waited with interest for a reply to your query. As you have deduced, your stamp's features appear to exclude it being from the Penrose 1954 annual. Are the perforations, watermark and gum the same as SG535? Could it be a genuine stamp without the blue? I admit no such variation has ever been reported!

Perf gauge mislayed but perfs same as stamp on a FDC. Tudor crown watermark. Shiny gum presumably gum arabic. Condition marred by some toning spots on back.
Sorry for late reply, but posting delayed by family illness.
