Can anybody help. I have a 2nd class 2002 Golden Jubilee stamp that has been used (02012-2015) that is markedly different from the issued design. As can be seen from images the item in question has a black border, the value is in black rather than the issued silver and most intriguingly in top left corner is the inscription "1926 - 2003". Although the Queen was born in 1926, what is the significance of this date range and why on a stamp issued in 2002. This stamp seems to have been through the postal system unquestioned. There are trial stamps of this issue but reference to the Grosvenor Auctions historic sales confirms that this is not one of these. Follow link.

Any thoughts about the origin of this item appreciated.

This is pure guesswork on my part, but I believe that upon the demise of KGV, some of the Photogravure issue were unofficially turned into 'mourning' stamps by the addition of a thin black border over the perforations. Is there any possibility that this has happened to this stamp, and the dates added at the same time ?

No idea why it would have been done.
