Channel Islands stamps and booklets

Post by robinT »

Those who study booklets will realise that Harrison were were the premier printers of booklets and their contained stamps from the time photogravure was introduced.

Their influence lasted a long time and although they started badly - they knew insufficient about the process they had taken on - they produced much successfully.

Unfortunately their work deteriorated and by 1969 anything new was rather too much for them.
They produced booklets for a number of countries other than GB and the first they produced for the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey showed how bad they had become.

These booklets and their associated definitive stamps are well worth the trouble of looking them up.
Unfortunately these issues have become associated with over production and profiteering - more usually associated with GB production. This is not suprising because their postal services had been run by the Royal Mail until 1969.
Additionally it should be pointed out that these islands, their population and their stamp ARE British.
I have had two attempts at getting material placed on our website but have failed twice - pity
