Booklets/material

Post by robinT »

I have recently seen messages stating interest in booklets - but without details.

Specialised booklet collection is basically a thing of the past when carried out in the way that members of the GBDSBC used to do it and still is assiduously practised by the few remaining members of MBPC.

I have always taken an interest in GB booklets, but never in a straight forward way.

I study the skeletons, flaws on covers and interleaves. I study GB booklets from the Channel Islands that most of you dont even know exist. Yes they were printed, in the main by British printers.

These attract an audience of nil.

Those of you who are sitting on booklet material, should hatch it or give it to me!!!

I particularly require skeletons for all Sterling Machin booklets, together with the stitched booklet skeletons of decimal issues.

I have just completed a booklet on the first 2/- booklet issue of Guernsey, which I will enter in Stampex next year. Copies available - but I wont hold my breath!
Literally hundreds of flaws exist on this series of booklets, printed by Harrison

It illustrates how bad printers can get when going down hill. It also shows there are areas of GB collection which are still being totally ignored.

I like GB booklets but I collect them by the way- not my main interest. I check plate flaws, cylinder numbers and perforation types.

Robin,

I have only just joined the society and regard myself as a specialist collector of booklets. My interests are Prestige, Greetings, Christmas, and window Booklets (up to them going self adhesive). I collect these in depth, studying the entire booklet (point of sale material, cover, pane and interleaves when present). I like both consistent and non-consistent flaws. I have a large box of window Book skeletons and would be quite happy to dig through these if anybody needs one or two - I have to stress though that I do not have examples of everything in this box.

I am working through my collection using one of the fairly new digital microscopes which I am using to include in the item write up enlarged images of the small flaws on booklet panes and covers. I am also experimenting with taking photos of phosphor errors under UV light so that I can include these in the write up.

I have examples of all Wallsall/Questa plate combinations numbers, (and cylinders from most columns for gravure). My collection does include a number of rare, if not unique, items but as in any in depth collection is mainly made up of minor varieties.

I only rarely check all the messages and regrattably missed yours

You must be a rarity - join the club!

From your description your interest is in modern booklets - but not the standard stitched varieties? The interleaves and covers from those yeild a large number of flaws - but no one appears to have an interest there

I am collecting GB booklet covers - from 1969 to self adhesive and need some - when I get time I will make up a list - unless you want to off-load the lot?

Remember that GB includes the three Crown dependancies - which will, at least, double your task!

The MBPC used to have mny members with your type of interest but is now dying the death of apathy - pity.

Let me know if ever you get round to Jersey or Guernsey's booklets
