Somerset Postal History

Post by leamphil »

Is there a Society or Study Group that covers Somerset Postal History ? If so, can someone please tell me how to contact them.

Are there any publications that cover Somerset PH - I've got the British County Catalogue vol 5.

All prompted because I started collecting postmakrs associated with my surname.

Regards,
Nick Bridgwater

Hi Nick - the only Somerset books I have are The Undated Circular Marks of Somerset and Dorset by John H. Millener and Betty Savage and Old Down by J. W. M. Stone. My run of the Journal of the Somerset and Dorset Postal History Group is from Dec. 1978 (Vol. 1, No. 1) to 2006 (missing a few issues). Presumably the Group is still going? Best wishes, Mike

Thanks Mike - do the journals of the Somerset and Dorset Postal History Group give any contact info ? I've searched online but cannot find a web presence other than fleeting references to their publications.

Thanks for the contacts Mike, they are still the correct people (I ended up ringing 3 out of 4 of them !).

They don't have a web presence ... but they're going to think about it now !

I gather that Membership is £6 per annum for 2 journals, 2 newsletters and 2 meetings a year, and that the next meeting is in October (in Hornsbury Mill, Chard as on the page included by Mike).
