Double strike maltese cross

Hi everyone
Picked up an envelope recently with a nice bold Maltese cross on the front. The wrapper contents suggest is posted from Paddington, to Bank, London. 1842.
However, the reason for the purchase, and interest, is the double line Maltese cross on the back. Ive never owned one so picked it up.
I know very little about these and was wondering if there are any aficionados out there that can help.
Thanks in anticipation
Mark

Mark,

The obliteration on the 1d is very well inked, so I suggest the MX on the reverse is an offset (& showing a fainter second offset).

Thanks. Ive never had one so its added to my collection. I suspected it was a 'lighter' copy of the front, but it intrigues me that the office receiving would stamp both front and back. The only one in my collection that has that.
