QV pre-printed postcards

Post by jimusedcontrols »

I am preparing an article about QV pre-printed postcards and would be very grateful for scans of any of the following items:
1¼d cards uprated to 2¼d or 3¼d for July-December 1875 usage to Italy, Greece etc via France before France used the new UPU rates;
2½d rates April-June 1879 via Brindisi to various destinations in Asia and Africa, obviously only uprated using an existing piece of postal stationery;
3d Empire card used to Fiji;
1½d and 2d cards uprated.
Many thanks for any help offered!

Cheers

James Hi

I have a single example of the 1st 1½d PS Card uprated with a 1d Venetian sent to Allalabad British India sent from Sheffield JU 2 81 code letter U in duplex.

Although not on your list I also have several other items which may be of interest:-

A 1st issue small format ½d PS Card sent LEITH to Cadiz Spain JY-29-74 uprated (½d ignored) with a pair of 3d surface printed Plate 14.

“Great Britain & Ireland” 1d with additional ½d Green London duplex DE-2-80 with dated double arc cds on front TRINIDAD DE-21-1880.

A couple of 1¼d GPU PS Cards with 2d Blue Plate No’s but paying Late Fees to Germany, and several more with 1d Plate No’s/Late Fee frankings.

1875 ½d PS Card (without “To”) uprated to Germany with ½d Bantam sent 1876 to Germany underpaid but without surcharge.

1d 1883 PS Card to New York uprated with BISECTED ½d Vermilion tied by LONDON N.W. Squared Circle MR-30-91.

FDC’s of the 1¼d and 1st type 1d Foreign PS Card

A band wrapper for a dozen 1¼d cards with the printed price shown as 1s4d but overprinted 1s3d when at the last minute the GPO realised that charging above face value for cards was contrary to the GPU regulations

Several private cards with “POST CARD” printed on them and used internally with ½d Bantams 1870’s

Private card printed “Book Post Card” with single 1d Plate Number & PLYMOUTH 620 Duplex 1877 printed stamp dealers price list to CANADA

Inland ½d cards GPO & s.t.o. to overseas some uprated with ½d’s etc, some from Brit PO’s overseas, some surcharged tax marks or P.Due labels.

Inland 1st type GB Lettercard front only used as post card to Spain & backstamped CORUNA 19 SEP 94

1d PS Card uprated with 3x 1d Lilac to J’burg Transvaal 4 MR 92

Please let me know if any are likely to be of interest. Likewise as one of my main collecting interests is the 1¼d Card, if in your quest for examples with the 2d Pt.No’s added bears fruit from a retail source please can you let me know.

Dear "Sark"
thanks for that overview and yes indeed I would be very interested in seeing the Allalabad, Trinidad and Transvaal cards as well as the bisected ½d Jubilee, the 1¼d FDC and with 2d blues late fee.
If you prefer you can mail me scans to james-heal@arcor.de

I would like to find most of those as well ... if I had them, they would have been in my January display. :lol:

Should have a 2d card uprated for the 3d Australasia rate though -- I'll have to dig it out.
