FgGB Annual Philatelic Weekend in Wesel (Germany), 4-6 October 2019

Every year since 2009 philatelists and postal historians from all over Europe (in fact from all over the world since 2015) have met in early October for a weekend in different places in Germany. This year we meet in Wesel which is situated about 60 kilometers from Düsseldorf very near to the border between Germany and the Netherlands. We again expect between 60 and 70 collectors to take part in this meeting.

What can you expect?

As we all stay in the same hotel you will meet many old and new friends during meals all through the day. On Saturday morning there will be three workshops which you can take part in, one for postal history, one for the plating of the Penny Red Stars and one for collectors of the Machin stamps. We will also provide a sufficient number of exhibition frames so that you could bring some of your treasures to show to the other participants. If you do so you have 10 minutes to tell something about your collection, either on Friday evening or on Saturday afternoon. The frames will be there to wander around for the whole weekend.

You can also send us the topics of your collecting interests. We will provide you with a list of all topics of all participants so if you have surplus materials which you would like to swap or sell just bring it with you and get in contact with the relevant collectors.
We offer a touristic program, especially for the accompanying partners. On Friday there is plenty of time to visit the town of Wesel and on Saturday we recommend a trip to Xanten, a town nearby with a very interesting and rich Roman history which is shown in a wonderful museum. The trip to Xanten can be done by public transport (bus) or by car in less than 30 minutes. And if the weather is nice, which is often the case in early October, you can sit on the terrace of our hotel, enjoy a drink and watch the ships on the river Rhine which is just 150 meters away.

If you are interested to join us for this weekend please send an e-mail to geschaeftsstelle@fggb.de. Axel Meilinger will provide you with a registration form then.

Forschungsgemeinschaft Grossbritannien will gladly assist you, if you wish, with information on train transfers from Düsseldorf Airport or how to get to Wesel by train from the UK.
