I wish you luck finding some of those 1d Red A row 1st state stamps.

VERY rare, but no harm in looking and if lady luck comes your way, then it might be worthy of an article in the GBJ.

Hi,
I have a very large collection of plate 9, including most (not all) of the state 2 and state 3 impressions. I have never seen a state 1 of any of the A row stamps in red except for a mint block comprising the top 3 rows (which has now been divided in half) which had some examples. I have an image of the right hand block of 18. which has AG, AH and AI in state 2 and AJ, AK and AL in state 1. State 1s of the A row stamps in red are extremely rare.
However, a caveat. About 10 years ago, I found a copy of AB on ebay showing a clear O flaw. I naturally bought it.
When it arrived, I discovered that the O flaw had been faked and sent it back. So be careful!
The only state 1s I have which also exist in a later state are BC, DG, GB and GD.
Best wishes
Tony

Thank you, Tony. This is much appreciated. Like you, I have been very careful, and I too have returned stamps to their vendors, some being well-known dealers. Best regards, Trevor
