List of Letter Receivers at East Smithfield, Wapping, and Ratcliffe Cross

Whereas divers Abuses have been committed by Persons who have hitherto taken in Letters to be carried to the General Post-house, within the Limits of East-Smithfield, Wapping, Ratcliffe-Cross, and Limus, &c. whereby many Letters have miscarried: For the preventing whereof, for the future, there are appointed Three fit Persons at the places aforesaid, to receive and take in Letters every hour in the Day, on the General Post-days, and untill half an hour after Ten of the Clock at Night, without any manner of Charge, the Postage only excepted, viz. Mr. John Ward Tallow-Chandler in East-Smithfield, Mr Samuel Gibs Tobacconist near King Edward's Stairs, and Mr. Daniel Wilkinson at Ratcliff Cross, who will carefully and safely convey all such Letters to the General Letter-Office in Lombard-street; And all other Persons whatsoever are to forbear taking in or receiving any Letters by Ring of Bell or otherwise to go by Post, within the Limits of Tower-hill on the West to Blackwall on the East, and from Whitechapel Street on the North to Wappin on the South, as they will answer the contrary.
