Re: Any ideas on this dumb cancel?
Thanks Maurice. If you haven't seen it either then I don't feel too stupid for not recognising it :D I don't have Mackay's book but I'll be in the Royal on Tuesday, so if I get time I will look it up. I'll also be taking it to the GBPS meeting on Saturday as part of my contribution so hopefully some...

Any ideas on this dumb cancel?
Hi All, I have this undated KGVI cover bearing a 1951 (new colours) 2d & ½d tied by a large boxed "X" (with dots on 3 sides of the cross) "dumb" cancel. Does anybody recognise this cancel as I can't find anything similar in any books I have and difficult to search online as n...

Embossing on QV SP Stamps
Hi All, As part of the SG SP catalogue updates we are looking at including a small section in the appendix (following the under/overprints) on embossing applied to stamps presumably as another form of security. Currently we are only aware of those from the firm " Novelli & Co. " and ev...

Re: Post Office Identification Request
For things like this I find "The Gazette" invaluable. See https://www.thegazette.co.uk/ Best of all, as it is a public record, it is free to search and download as much as you want. My displays have lots of snippets taken from the Gazette liberally spread throughout! I had a quick look and...

Dinner Menus of KEVII 2/6d
I’ve been doing a little research into the dinner menus to be found on the back of the King Edward VII 2/6d (original 1902 De La Rue printing on Ordinary Paper). These were produced for two 1902 dinners. One by Phillips (when he owned SG) and the other by Beckton (the Manchester based philatelist). ...

Unusual Underprint
All, I was sent a scan of an underprint found on a handful of 1/2d vermilion and 1d lilac stamps. Has anybody seen anything like this before and if so any clues to the origin? http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/xx198/andydonaldson/WavyUnderprint.jpg Not seen an example in the flesh yet but from the ...

Re: Perfins
Worth pointing out that the Tomkins catalogue only lists "identified" perfins (at the time of publication obviously) so is not a complete list. The New Illustrated Catalogue (being published a letter at a time) lists all known perfins identified or otherwise: http://www.angelfire.com/pr/pe...
