Re: Postmark ID 1864 Penny Red
Larry, Regret the 450-page tome is much too beefy for my lightweight LiDE scanner. It might be a good idea to send the scan to Stan Challis for his records, useful for any future update to the book - I expect he has received a plethora of new info since publication - and he may be able to point to a...

Re: Postmark ID 1864 Penny Red
Larry,
This 'killer' cancellation was usd on newspapers and wrappers from about 1875. It is referred to as type K4x in 'Irish Diamonds' by Stan Challis & is uncommon (I've never seen one before.) On plate 150 this seems very early use and is a really clean strike. Numbers ranged 1 to 8.

Re: E-Gauge
William, I've downloaded the file from my earlier post and confirmed it is at 800ppi resolution. An independent check is to measure the gap between the tangents to the innermost arcs of the two reticulated networks. The average gap is 14.10mm for a large population of penny reds, corresponding to 44...

Re: E-Gauge
Ian, I've checked the E-Gauge application & found to be functioning normally. On the two main points you've raised: The resolution of the image must be 800ppi so as to match the resolution of the gauge. From your scanner I'd recommend scanning at 1000ppi, then re-scaling that at 80%. That would ...
