Re: Penny Red SG 29 block of 4
Sold - as much for the nice block and the Welsh postmark, rather than the absence of the later variety.

Re: 1837 8/6 stamp
I don't think the stamp reference is to a stamp as we know it, nor to any of all sorts of labels etc. to pay government taxes before the permanent introduction of income tax. My best guess is that the reference to the stamp is to a bill of exchange or similar, that was often used to facilitate trans...

Elizbeth 1952,
Would it be a good idea for you as vendor and other members as would-be purchasers to post a scan (or even two) of the stamp?

Is there a small corner bend visible on the reverse scan, bottom left (looking at the scan)?

Re: T02 Cancel
Parmenter in his Barred Numeral Cancellations of London shows this is one of the FOREIGN BRANCH T.P.O.’S 1-6, and that the letters T.O. stand for Travelling Office. He rates T.O.2 as scarcer than T.O.1, but less scarce that the higher numbers, all issued 30 April 1860.

Chris, Welcome to the GBPS.
Your question isn't nerdy, but I don't know the answer. May I please ask another group for their views, if any, to your question? Winston

Re: FOR SALE - 2016 SG Commonwealth & British Empire 1840-1970 Catalogue
Hi Farrukh, I'm not quite sure about GBPS policy on member postings offering a current catalogue for sale. However if it is OK. then you may not have many takers for your offer, as I see there is a big seller on eBay UK who is currently selling the catalogue for £50.08, postage to the UK included. H...

Re: Rate for Printed Matter UK to USA 1873 & 1891
UK inland and overseas letter_rates_v1-1 by Colin Tabeart revised by Oliver is the book for you that is available electronically on the internet. The newspaper tax that paid for postage was reduced to 1d in 1836. I'm not sure if that first applied to the USA from the time of the 1848 convention (Art...

Are you ONLY interested in unprepaid, or also where the postage from the UK to port or destination was paid in cash and not in stamps, with Late Fee paid by the sender with a stamp (or stamps)?

Re: "1d." postmark on a swiss internal cover ?!
The new information casts doubt on my initial feedback. However I would add that the "1d." handstruck postmark in red on the front has similarities to the Hull examples shown in the book “Uniform Penny Post: Handstruck Paid Postage Stamps of England and Wales 1840-1853” by Steve Walker, pu...

Re: "1d." postmark on a swiss internal cover ?!
I wonder if it was sent from Britain, prepaid 1d to port (hence the 1d in red), and it then got to Geneva by way of Basle? If you post a photo of the markings on the reverse, that might give a better clue. Also, what date is given in the letter?
