Booklets/material

I have recently seen messages stating interest in booklets - but without details. Specialised booklet collection is basically a thing of the past when carried out in the way that members of the GBDSBC used to do it and still is assiduously practised by the few remaining members of MBPC. I have alway...

Well you have opened a can of worms! What you display is what you want others to see/know/admire etc. etc....... Just showing one EVIII booklet can be intriguing if you show Covers in and out Panes with varying perfs, cyl.nos. I1/2V cuts top and bottom Flaws!!! However, normally hat little booklet w...

From one who has split up more books than most Specialist single stamp collectors need many single stamps from panes, invariably their only source. Those who collect the panes do not, usually, want more than one. Panes are need in their entireity to show perf types, even paper, coating and gum chang...

If a collector was REALLY serious, they would measure the height of the panes!!!! This particularly applies to those woth I1/2V cuts, which should have torn edges where the margins were removed. faking reduces the height there. On the other hand taking a pair of stamps and cutting top and bottom als...

Look at the printing figures and consider how few booklet collectors there are. Common booklets and their contained stamps are not even being given away now!

It reached me but to me composing is easy, but not always polite Thus it annoys me when my computor or the website fail to do what I have instructed. Hi All the panes of two came from the first two columns of standard sheets. These were stitched into the covers and then cut to size, with a guillotine Some of them do actually have cyl. nos. on - those at the top middle and bottoms also show the I 1/2V cuts. The top and bottom panes also are CTTT r...

Hi fellow Robin

The answer is you cannot be certain unless you obtain a complete booklet.
Although the panes are CTCT(m), these can be faked quite easily.

Sorry

Those who study booklets will realise that Harrison were were the premier printers of booklets and their contained stamps from the time photogravure was introduced. Their influence lasted a long time and although they started badly - they knew insufficient about the process they had taken on - they ...

Hi fellow Robin Just so! Your request regarding info on the second world war functioning of the PO in the islands can be best answered at length by others. However a potted answer is that the Germans took over the existing system and allowed it to continue. The biggest problem was not with the syste...

There was no message and you are the first to query it!!!! EVIII stamps on FDC cancelled with Guernsey or Jersey cancels are quite common. GVI are not common, but mainly were used on postcards from the islands. FDC are common but higher values are not. Many Commem stamps exist on cover from this era...

The problem always is that the majority want the minority to work and inform them of their findings. This of course affects competitions and exhibitions - the few...

The 'silver' test extensively referred to by SG is a flawed conception. ANY COATING WHICH CONTAINS AN ABRASIVE SUBSTANCE _ NOT JUST CHALK _ WILL PRODUCE A BLACK LINE (this is the coating on the silver item, caused by a reaction with oxygen, being removed. As far as paper coatings are concerned a mag...

A little serious thought about these matters is usually what is needed

Of course the stitched side would go to the outlet first - it would reduce the likelyhood of a jam, caused by the booklet opening in the machine - in spite of the weight on top of the pile!
