Theo is correct! This is borne out by an article in GBJournal Vol 21, pp.52-53. The only alternatives I can see for the extra charges are 1] Express fee - but there is no label on the cover or mss notation for this; 2] an error by the accepting postal clerk - an extremely rare occurance, but they do...

This cancell mark appears to be part of the word CANCELLED. If the address is a viable one, then I suggest either that the envelope was one of a batch made up but not used by the sender (? a firm?) who then made application to the GPO for a refund of the unused postage, or that this was used in one ...

Special Event Postmarks on 1935 Silver Jubilee issues
I was recently fortunate enough to be able to purchase a copy of the 1935 Silver Jubilee threehalfpence stamp on cover cancelled with the special event hand-stamp "DUXFORD A'DME/CAMBRIDGE/6 JY/35". This was used for the Silver Jubilee RAF Review that year. There were also a Review of the F...

1935 Silver Jubilee 1½d cylinder 2
Bob/Leslie, I have now found the reference! It was under my nose all the time: page 77 of PSGB Pt IV, last paragraph: "The printing from cylinder 2 is extremely interesting. No examples from the 'stop'(sic) pane have been found and the only known block from the 'no stop'(sic) pane shows that th...

Bob: Thanks, but I already have both those books. If you are interested in this issue, you should also get the book: "British Silver Jubilee Stamps (1935)" by Vallancey, published in 1939. Alastair Hacket did no work on that part of the issue, as I have spoken to him about it. Apparently, ...

1935 Silver Jubilee 1½d cylinder 2
I have seen it stated in philatelic literature that the multipositive used for cylinder 2 of the 1935 Silver Jubilee threehalfpence stamp was different to that used for all the other multipositives for that value. Does anyone have any documentary evidence supporting this statement? Does anybody know...
