1814 Sterling Cover

Post by mcornes »

I picked up this 1814 cover to start filling in my rate gaps in my collection, with a Sterling Mileage mark 45 ---"E" , I think it is an E for Edinburgh.
The 7 1.2 postage matches the 45 miles to it destination.

I must be having a bad day today as i cant make out this handwriting to find out the destination of this letter. There are no marks on the back at all.
Mr R.... M,,,,,
What looks like Chartist but I don't think that is a town as I don't find one so I think it is his occupation.
By North ...... Ferry

Any help would be appreciated.

I read it as "Charleston, by North Queens Ferry". From Google it seems these are both villages in Scotland, and near to each other (the former now spelt "Charlestown").
