ROLLER FLAW ON PENNY BLACK PLATE 1b
ROLLER FLAW ON PENNY BLACK PLATE 1b
Recently purchased the roller flaw variety as described in the Specialised catalogue but I cannot clearly determine a difference, the letters are DE which is listed as the stronger example - can any more detailed description be provided.

If that is not enough for you, then if you were lucky enough to own a DD-DF strip, you would see the difference better between your stamp and the other two.
Re: ROLLER FLAW ON PENNY BLACK PLATE 1b
Hi - appreciate your reply, I see what is meant, but if I may further enquire - is there an absence in all plate 1b of the 10 o'clock ray except for those as listed in the SG specialised catalogue because I have checked my other purchases of this plate and RG shows a 10 o'clock ray but the letters NE in one are close together as described in Edward Prouds plating book so I guess it must be correct?
Thanks for the info - M.

Mike
In my view it is a matter of degree, not black and white, for the 10 o'clock roller flaw.
Turning to your second stamp, lettered RE, it is possible that yours is Plate 2, not Plate 1b. There can be confusion between the two plates. Both those stamps lettered RE have a reasonable vestige of the 10 o'clock ray.
If the R is tilted slightly downwards then of those two plates it is Plate 1b. If the R is tilted slightly upwards, it is Plate 2. Without a scan it is of course impossible to rule out that your stamp could be from something other than Plate 1b or Plate 2.
Any further queries I'll leave to others to answer (you could consider use of the GBPS Queen Victoria: Line Engraved consultant).
