Scarcity of Early Scilly Islands Cancellations?

Post by JWorek »

My primary focus is assembling as complete as possible QV barred numeral collection. One numeral that had been on my want list for some time was the 1844 type for #610 Scilly Islands, used between 24 Sept 1847 and 18 Aug 1875. Buried and dispersed in a recent purchase of some 10,000 plates was four examples of #610, three being the 1844 type (plates 123, 139 and 185), the other being 3VOS, plate 210. Although anything from these tiny islands is sure to be scarce, Parmenter makes some particular notes on rarity (albeit speaking regarding covers) in the Cornwall section. A bit of exaggeration or did I get particularly lucky here that someone was more concerned with plate number than cancellation? Any thoughts on Scilly Islands would be appreciated.
