Very hard to tell from a picture. Scans are better. But, a cursory glance , I think a K . The top right upstroke does not seem to be rounded like an R would be. I am a little more familiar with line engrave. In SG catalog they list stamps generally on white, blue, etc. paper. Maybe if a surface printed pops up on white paper for a period that should have blue or vice versa??

A more experienced person familiar with these may help, but as you know there's not much to go on. I thought I might see something ' simple ' searching England and Wales Post Office Numerals, but got returned "Ford" is found on 347 pages! Sorry....

Thanks for the follow up. If you didn’t have to rescale, I shouldn’t have to either. So I guess ios is causing the issue as what I got is from a right-click download or open and save from browser. I got the same results both ways.

Ian, I've checked the E-Gauge application & found to be functioning normally. On the two main points you've raised: The resolution of the image must be 800ppi so as to match the resolution of the gauge. From your scanner I'd recommend scanning at 1000ppi, then re-scaling that at 80%. That would...

What about 890 (Windsor, 1844-1962) with a badly printed 8? Im pretty sure its a Plate 170 & 890 Windsor was Aug 1851 last known use I think - if im reading it right. 690 SAXMUNDHAM goes to 1860 and it just doesnt look like a 5, 590 ... Hope im on the right track ! The first digit being missing...

I think this stamp (FA) is from plate 119 first printed 20 May 1851 so the London District postmark 75 for Edmonton which came into use in 1844 is fairly late use. Personally I should be surprised if there is any of the original gum left on this used example. Not my particular area, but from memory, the gum was usually pretty thick and yellowish and probably quite glossy when dried -- and not always that good at attaching the stamp unless thoroughly wetted!
