I guess you have read the series of articles by Peter Shaw in GSM, particularly the April 2010 edition.

Additional Medicine Duty

In his Catalogue of Revenue Stamps, Booth lists the 1½d value with Control H16 Imperf. Does anyone have an example or an image of this please.

A booklet by The Lord Spens and Gerry Bater was produced in 1990 covering these issues with an Addendum in 2001 by Gillham and Tregurtha. These were published by The G.B. Overprints Society and are now out of print and scarce but if you contact me direct at emmjayo@talktalk.net I may be able to get ...

Wilding Perforations

Amongst a recently acquired auction lot of Tudor watermark Wildings overprinted for use in Kuwait were two similar blocks of the 6d stamp with perforated top and right margins, a combination that is not listed in S.G. Vol 3. In addition there is a Guide Hole between columns 6 and 7 in the top margin...

Robin,
There is no mention of this flaw in the 13th Edition. The variation in the two scans suggests that it may be progressive and further variations could exist.

Robin
Thanks for your assistance. You are correct in that the paper colour and thickness affects the shade of the stamp. Will have to keep on looking for an explanation.
Liked your scans. Pity the encroachment on the bottom one is not quite perfect.

Ron,
Thank you for your helpful response. A scan of the shade with a normal is attached. The shade is on the right.

2½d Shades

Amongst some written up pages of cylinder blocks purchased some time ago from a well known dealer, there is a 2½d 2 dot A36 and Bar cylinder block, the write up for which says 'during the final printing a subtle change of paper and ink gave rise to this 'Golden Blue' shade. The colour of the block i...

The Wilding 6d value

The catalogues show just 2 shades, the original Reddish Purple and the change to Deep Claret. This is patently far too simplistic. I have so many (good) shades in my own collection of cylinder blocks, that identifying the Deep Claret, which first appeared during the period of the St Edwards Crown wa...

Paper production

As I understand it, the paper used was supplied to the printers in individual sheets. However the word POSTAGE and the Mould Marks A2, B2 etc do not appear in the same position in relation to Control blocks. This suggests that the paper was manufactured in a size larger than a single sheet and then ...

The early Wilding 6d stamps from cylinders 1,2 and 3 were produced from single pane cylinders unlike all the other values which were from double pane cylinders. The later 6d's from cyl 5 onwards were double pane.
Can anyone please tell me why the single pane cylinders were used.

GB 1958 ½d stamp with unique watermark?

The St Edwards Crown watermark can be difficult to make out particularly with the stamps that have solid colour in the design (such as the ½d value). The '2' in the wmk is particularly prone to this difficulty. Your drawing of the wmk has the 'E' and the 'R' inverted in relation to each other. Are y...

The image seems to show that the stamp has slightly trimmed perfs along the top edge, which suggests that it comes from a booklet. Does it have upright or sideways watermark? I would not like to suggest a price for this item but would not expect it to be more than a few pounds.

Wilding Cylinders.

http://www.gbps.org.uk/boards/images/transferred/311_1.jpg I am preparing a paper in conjunction with the GBOS, of all Wilding cylinders Overprinted for use in the various territories that used these issues in the 1950/60's. I have a Control Block of 6, Plate 9b, which shows the flaw and which came from the Oswald Marsh stock. I also have two Q21(P) blocks of 6 Plate 9b (both with the screw head impression) also ex Marsh which do not show the flaw. Perhaps more interestingly, I have the T22(I) block of 6 overprinted for...
