Correction, Should be year ending 31 March 1874

Theo, I have in my library the Post Office estimates for the year ending 31 March 1974 and attach a scan of the relevant page. Unfortunately this is the latest volume I have.
The poundage on the sale of postage labels will give a good idea on the rarity of the GB stamps used abroad.

Robin I would suggest the following sequence. At the delivery office the 1d postage due was affixed and cancelled. The postman having paid the 1d from his float. At Kniting 22 the letter was refused. Back at the delivery office the postman was refunded his penny and the cachet "Charge not colle...

I have looked at these and interestingly no dates appear in the cancel. I seem to remember the actual Edinburgh Postal Training School cancellor and cachet appearing a while ago on ebay. So buyer beware.

Reference to the Times on line, dated 14 November 1900 confirms the bicentenary exhibition was held at Newington Baths, Manor place, Walworth Road, opening on the 13 November 1900. See attached newspaper extract.

I would refer you to the forty-fourth report of the Postmaster General of 1898. Appendix 1(8 pages) which is headed Delivery of Letters in Rural Districts. This report indicates that up to 1764, apart from London letters would be carried to the Post Town only.
