GEORGE VI COMMEMORATIVES MATERIALS

Post by MIKE »

Do any members have any specialised knowledge of the papers used, the ink formulas or details of the gum make up for the George VI commentatives, and in particular the paper termed translucent - many thanks Mike

I think you are referring to commemoratives.

Spelling it correctly may help with searches.

I've edited the title so it'll show up. :)

The paper and gum would have been the standard types as used for the definitives -- uncoated paper in a reel with KGVI cypher watermark, and gum arabic. (Might be some more detail in volume 2 of the current SG Specialised.)

I can't offhand remember seeing any details of the ink composition of KGVI stamps -- nothing seems to have been written on it in the GB Journal from a quick look at the index.

Not familiar with "translucent" paper in this context -- some might have been thinner than average allowing the design to show through more, I guess. Where was that term used?
